Drawing

Pencil, charcoal, graphite stick, pen and ink and chalk pastel are all media I use regularly for drawing and they are perfect for direct drawing from the figure or landscape. I have also turned drawings into screen prints so that I can overlap and combine images in different ways, as in several of my climbing pictures. Oil bars and water-based wax crayons sit on the boundary between straightforward drawing and painting and I use these a lot in my mixed media pieces. I worked as an archaeological illustrator for nine years, and this has informed my series of Cretan drawings in particular. I now regularly teach life drawing and run workshops on drawing skills.
