Mountains and Moorlands
Mixed media allows me to represent a landscape from many different perspectives and to convey the feeling of being within the landscape, rather than just drawing a static view. I have been a keen hill-walker since young, and many of these works are based around my walks in the mountains and across moors.
I have lived in Scotland since University, and am still fascinated by the harsh beauty of the Scottish landscape. In these pictures I am trying to capture visually the ever-changing weather, the feeling of space, the dramatic geology and the sense of the untamed.
Sea and Shore
The shoreline is fascinating in its ambiguity - neither sea nor land, at the mercy of the ever-changing tides. These pictures explore the feeling of being on the edge, balanced between two opposing elements.
Suns and Moons
The sun and moon are highly symbolic in all societies, past and present, and in the first three pictures here I explore the relationship of the sun and moon with the earth and the sea. These contrast with the final six pictures, in which I depict the moon or sun in abstract isolation as a pure, simple disc, composed entirely of light or colour.
