Figuring the Past
I began these collaged drawings of classical figures in response to a visit to the Museum of Classical Archaeology in Cambridge, where several were subsequently exhibited as part of a solo exhibition ‘Making History’, along with my Roman Rooms prints and Cretan Excavations drawings. Pieced together from fragments of life drawings and prints, these figurative works reflect the continual, dynamic process of reconstructing and reinterpreting classical sculpture in the modern age. The collages also explore the relationship between real human figures, figurative sculpture, and two-dimensional life drawings.
